ADD/
ADHD is a diagnosis applied to children and adults who consistently
display certain characteristic behaviors over a period of
time. The most common behaviors fall into three categories:
inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.
Researchers
have not yet identified a single cause behind the different
patterns of behavior associated with ADHD. Therefore, the
diagnosis of ADD/ADHD is complex and requires a thorough clinical
evaluation by a qualified professional.
Some symptoms of ADHD are described as inattention, hyperactivity,
impulsivity, and difficulty in performing tasks.
Inattention : struggling to give close attention to
details, making careless mistakes, difficulty sustaining attention
in tasks, seeming not to listen when spoken to directly, and/or
struggling to follow through on instructions.
Hyperactivity : fidgeting with hands or feet or squirming
in seat, feeling restless, difficulty engaging in leisure
activities quietly, and/or talking excessively.
Impulsivity : blurting out answers before questions have
been completed, and/or interrupting others.
Task Performance: difficulty organizing tasks and activities,
avoiding, disliking or is seemingly reluctant to engage in
tasks that require sustained mental effort, losing things
necessary for tasks or activities, easily distracted by extraneous
stimuli, and/or or frequently forgetful in daily activities.
